Plane crashes in eastern Afghanistan

A plane has crashed in Afghanistan eastern Ghazni province, senior Afghan officials have confirmed.

Iran PressAsia: Official sources in the province said the plane was en route to Ghazni from Herat when it crashed on Monday. 

The cause of the crash was not immediately clear. The number of casualties is also unclear.

The plane crashed in a territory under Taliban control, according to Tolo news agency. Afghan special forces have been sent to the crash site.

The mountainous Ghazni province sits in the foothills of the Hindu Kush mountains and is bitterly cold in the winter months.
