Iranian President said in a meeting with his Russian counterpart that the Hormuz Peace Endeavour (HOPE) initiative aims at promoting peace, stability, progress, and prosperity for all the residents along the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran Press/Asia: Iranian President Hassan Rouhani made the remarks on Tuesday in a meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Yerevan on the sidelines of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) leaders' summit.

On the Hormuz Peace Endeavour (HOPE) initiative, the Iranian President described its purpose as to promote peace, stability, progress and prosperity for all residents along the Strait of Hormuz, and to promote mutual understanding and peaceful and friendly relations between them, stating, "The initiative encompasses various areas of cooperation such as security, energy, freedom of navigation and the free transfer of oil and other resources to and from the Strait of Hormuz,” the official website of the President reported.

Rouhani described the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) as an efficient model for the success of multilateral diplomacy in resolving international issues, stressing, “The success of this agreement requires the full implementation of all its signatories' commitments and the support of all countries for its implementation”.

Iranian President added that Iran expects from the signatories to the JCPOA to take steps toward the implementation of the deal, stressing that Moscow has an important role in this regard.

Rouhani also described maintaining peace and stability in the region, including the Persian Gulf, and ensuring freedom and security of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz the definitive policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, saying, “Sustainable security and peace in the Persian Gulf, Sea of Oman and the Strait of Hormuz can only be achieved with the participation of regional states.”

At the same meeting, the Russian President reiterated his support for the nuclear deal and stressed that Moscow is making every effort to urge all parties to the agreement to fully fulfill their obligations.

Vladimir Putin welcomed the start of Iran's official membership in economic relations with the Eurasian Economic Union, calling it a ground for further regional integration and development.

The Presidents of Iran and Russia also emphasized strengthening Tehran-Moscow relations in all areas of interest.

Heading a high-ranking political and economic delegation, Rouhani arrived in Yerevan on Monday night to attend the EAEU summit.

Speaking at the EAEU summit as well as holding bilateral talks with Armenian President and Prime Minister, presidents of Kazakhstan and Russia and Prime Minister of Singapore were the most important events of Rouhani's trip.
