The US Secretary of Treasury Steve Mnuchin stated that Trump issued an executive order on Iran's sanctions.

Iran Press/America: US President Donald Trump issued an executive order imposing sanctions on restricting the financial resources Iran uses to support its nuclear, missile and regional activities.

Standing alongside the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo during a White House briefing on Friday 10 January, Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin announced new sanctions on Iran and Iranian officials, after Iran's retaliatory attacks on US airbases earlier this week. The sanctions, Mnuchin said, will be both primary and secondary.

According to the US secretary of Treasury, six people are on the sanctions list including the Coordinator of the General Staff of the Armed Forces Ali Abdollahi, Deputy Chief of the Iranian Armed Forces Mohammad Reza Ashtiani, Deputy of International Communications Office of the Leader of Iran Mohsen Qomi, Secretary of the Expediency Discernment Council Mohsen Rezaei, the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani, Commander of Basij Force Gholamreza Soleimani.

At the same White House briefing, Pompeo repeated claims that martyred Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani was planning attacks on multiple US embassies, although he admitted he was not sure exactly what day or days those attacks were to take place.

This claim has been repeated by US officials without delivering substantial evidence during recent days.

Following the recent Iranian missile attack on US positions in Iraq as retaliation for assassinating Lieutenant General Qasem Soleimani, US President Donald Trump delivered a speech stating the US does not intend to use force but imposes more sanctions instead. He announced that his country would announce fresh sanctions on Iran.

The administration has already reinstated all the US sanctions that were eased under the 2015 nuclear deal.
