Mashhad(IP)- Eid al-Ghadir was celebrated with the presence of foreign pilgrims from Bahrain, Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan at the Holy Shrine of Imam Reza (AS), the eighth Imam of Shias.

Iran Press/Iran news: The holy shrine of Imam Reza (AS) is decorated with flowers on the occasion of Eid al-Ghadir and hosts Iranian and foreign pilgrims.

Muslims, particularly the Shia community, mark Eid al-Ghadir by celebrating the appointment of Imam Ali (AS), Prophet Mohammad’s cousin and son-in-law as the first imam to lead the Muslim nation.

The occasion is named after the event of Ghadir Khum when Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) introduced Imam Ali (AS) as his successor in a sermon delivered next to Ghadir Khum pond located between Mecca and Medina in 632 CE. 219
