Economy Ministers of Iran and Egypt met on the sidelines of the meeting of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

According to Shada, Dr. Abdolnaser Hemmati, Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance, landed in Samarkand on Tuesday to participate in the ninth annual meeting of AIIB.

He was welcomed by the Deputy Minister of Economy of Uzbekistan.

The summit is set to commence on Wednesday, September 25, and will last for three days.

The agenda includes seminars focusing on innovations in infrastructure financing, climate resilience, sustainable development, and the digital transformation of infrastructure projects. Key objectives for Hemmati's trip involve participating in discussions with economic ministers, attending official meetings of the board members, and engaging in bilateral talks with officials from various countries.

The AIIB is a multilateral development bank that aims to enhance economic and social outcomes across Asia. It is currently the world's second-largest multilateral development institution.

Headquartered in Beijing, the bank has 109 members, including 13 prospective members from around the globe. Its mission centers on financing infrastructure projects that promote sustainable development.

Iran is a founding member and shareholder of the AIIB, having joined the institution in March and April 2025.

As Tehran and Cairo navigate their complex histories, their recent engagement at the AIIB meeting reflects a pragmatic approach to addressing shared interests. The outcome of these discussions could have significant implications for regional stability and economic collaboration in the Middle East.
