Three young children are among five people injured after a stabbing attack outside a school in Dublin city center. Police detain a suspect.

Iran PressEurope: Five people including three young children have been injured in a knife attack in Dublin city centre described by a witness as "absolutely bedlam".

The incident happened in Parnell Square East in the north inner-city of Dublin, shortly after 1.30 pm on Thursday.

A man, woman, and three young children were taken to hospital, the police said.

One of the children, a five-year-old girl, and a woman in her 30s are being treated for serious injuries.

In a press conference, Superintendent Liam Geraghty told the media the five-year-old girl was receiving "emergency medical treatment".

He also said it appeared to be a "standalone attack" and officers were not treating it as terror-related at this time. 219
