Iran Press/ Africa: The attack carried out on Sunday caused the escape of a large number of inmates from Jos Custodial Centre of Nigeria Correctional Service.
On Monday, several journalists gathered and spent so many hours at the Jos Custodial Centre to cover the event but were intimidated by the Nigerian security forces (DSS).
The security forces threatened to beat the Iran Press correspondent and seize his camera while doing his job, but journalists intervened and stopped them from doing so.
According to an eyewitness, Sunday, around 6:20 pm, the gunmen who attacked the prison spent more than one hour operating without the arrival of government security personnel.
The DSS and Police Headquarters are less than one kilometer far from the place.
During the attack, some parts of the prison were set ablaze and important documents were said to be burnt to ashes.
The Plateau State Police Public Relations officer told reporters that nine of the inmates who escaped had been rearrested, but he did not answer the question of whether they had arrested any of the gunmen.
Still, the Plateau State Deputy Governor Sonny Tyoden visited the Correctional Centre but failed to talk to journalists.
It's not known whether the dead bodies shown to the journalists are those of the gunmen or the inmates.
