Iran Press/ Iran news: Abbas Araghchi said that it is of surprise that the Western countries have not yet recognized that sanctions are a failed tool and that they are unable to impose their own agenda on Iran through sanctions.
Araghchi expressed the comments on Saturday in reaction to the US Treasury declaring new sanctions against 20 Iranian individuals, entities, and vessels both in Iran and Russia.
The Iranian Foreign Minister told reporters that sanctions are a tool of pressure and confrontation, not a tool of cooperation, noting that the tool has long failed to be useful in practice.
Since the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1978, the West led by the US began to put pressure on Iran to null its independence of Iran but it never reached the goal, for the very sanctions resulted in reversed effects such that the Islamic
Republic gradually progressed in different areas, including science and technology, and turned into a significant actor in the West Asian Region.
"The countries that once sanctioned us for barbed wire have now reached a point where they themselves claim that Iran exports and sells advanced arms; This is the result of the sanctions. That they are still sticking to the failed experience is really surprising and I recommend they change their path," he pointed out.
Following its maximum pressure policy, the US Treasury sanctioned 20 individuals, entities, and vessels in Iran and Russia, including Iran Air, under the pretext of selling missiles to Moscow to be used in the Ukrainian war.
The sanctions also were followed by the UK and France as they pointed to the cancelation of the bilateral air service contracts with the Islamic Republic of Iran and the boycott of Iran Air due to the mentioned excuse.
The EU Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell also reacted to the claim and said that the EU would respond through new restrictive measures against Iran, including designating individuals and entities associated with Iran's ballistic missile and drone programs.
UK Foreign Secretary Lord Cameron has said it is up to Ukraine to decide how to use British weapons the country donated to Kyiv and insisted it has the right to strike targets on Russian territory.
According to the Guardian Britain has donated arms and equipment to Ukraine that would cost £2.71 billion.
