Tehran (IP) - Referring to Iran’s humanitarian and non-discriminatory services to the refugees, Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian urged international bodies to distribute the costs of the refugees among the world countries.

Iran PressEurope: Amir-Abdollahian made the remarks addressing a meeting of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Geneva on Wednesday.

The foreign minister called for the UNHCR assistance to the countries hosting the refugees.

Iran has been hosting refugees for more than 45 years and is also receiving the biggest flux of refugees after the developments in Afghanistan in 2021, Amirabdollahian said.

Stressing that tens of thousands of Afghan refugees are under the cover of medical insurance in Iran, he said that it is not fair and possible for a single country to carry the burden of such a huge population of refugees.

The foreign minister added that an insignificant 1 percent of the costs of Iran’s hosting of five million refugees are covered by humanitarian supplies.

He reiterated that Iran is generously hosting the refugees while it is under the toughest illegal sanctions of the US government.

He also warned about the imminence of a refugee crisis in Gaza and the West Bank due to the Zionist invasion of the region.
