Turkish humanitarian aid packages have been dispatched to flood-hit areas in Aq-qala, in Iran's Golestan province.

Iran Press/Asia: Turkish Red Crescent Society’s humanitarian aid packages were distributed among the flood-hit people of Tazehabad village near the town of Aq-Qala, in Golestan province in northeastern Iran.

The package destined for the province included tents, foodstuff baskets, sheets, and blankets.

Golestan province experienced a rare flash flood in the last days of the previous Iranian calendar year which ended in 20th March. Heavy downpours led to flash floods which seriously damaged many towns and villages across the province, as nine people lost their lives in the natural disaster.

According to Iran Press, exceptionally heavy rains since 19 March  have flooded some 1,900 cities, towns, and villages, killing 62 people and causing hundreds of millions of dollars worth of damage to Iranian agriculture, leaving aid agencies struggling to cope.

States of emergency have been declared in several provinces and tens of thousands of people have been evacuated from their homes.

Many people, as part of various voluntary groups as well as non-governmental organizations, have been participating in the efforts to ensure speedy recovery in areas that incurred the most flood damage.
