Iranian Foreign Minister and his Russian counterpart exchanged views about a range of issues, including the latest developments in Venezuela.

Iran Press/Iran news: In a telephone conversation, Mohammad Javad Zarif and Sergey Lavrov stressed their mutual readiness to promote mutual understanding between the responsible political forces of Venezuela in the interests of ensuring internal peace and resolving urgent social and economic problems as soon as possible, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

On Friday, Zarif made a phone call with his Venezuelan counterpart, Jorge Arreaza, during which he expressed Tehran’s support for Venezuela’s government and nation in the face of US plots, Iran Press reported.

Earlier on January 26, Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Turkish counterpart, Mevlut Cavusoglu also exchanged views on the situation in Venezuela amid Washington's interference in Venezuela's internal affairs.

The leader of Venezuela’s opposition-led National Assembly, Juan Guaido, declared himself acting president last week.

Shortly afterward, US President, Donald Trump recognized Guaido as president of the country.

Venezuelan President, Nicolas Maduro has condemned the decision of a number of countries to recognize Guaido as Venezuela’s acting president and broke diplomatic ties with Washington.

He also has called for military exercises in response to US President Donald Trump's threat of possible military action.

Russia and China, both opposed the US call to support Guaido, and condemned any international interference in Venezuela.

Turkey and Iran have also supported Maduro. 105/203
