Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs arrived in the Afghan capital Kabul this morning to confer over a host of bilateral and regional issues.

Iran Press/ Asia: Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Abbas Araqchi is scheduled to hold separate talks with senior Afghan officials, including his counterpart Salahuddin Rabbani, President Ashraf Ghani, and Afghanistan Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah.

During his one-day visit, the top diplomat will discuss bilateral ties and regional issues as well as the Afghan-Afghan peace talks, Iran Press reported.

On Sep. 13, Abbas Araghchi, met Afghan president Mohammad Ashraf Ghani in Kabul to discuss the expansion of bilateral relations, strengthen economic cooperation, trade and transport financial and banking services, climate change, water shortage, and joint battle against terrorism.

Also on Dec. 26, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani said that Tehran is engaged in negotiations with Taliban to help settle the existing security problems in Afghanistan, and will continue with these negotiations in the future.

During a meeting with the National Security Adviser of Afghanistan Hamdullah Mohib in Kabul, Iran's top security official said “A series of contacts and negotiations between Iran and the Taliban have been held with the full knowledge of the Afghan government, and this process will continue.” 101/201
