Iranian Foreign Minister and Qatar's Prime Minister in a meeting in Doha on Saturday emphasized Tehran and Doha's support for peace in Yemen.

Iran PressMiddle East: Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, who departed Tehran for Qatar on Saturday morning, to attend at international summit, "Doha Forum 2018", has met and conferred with  Qatari prime minister Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani.

Zarif and Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani in this meeting which was held on the sideline of Doha Forum 2018, emphasized on the development and deepening mutual relations, security and stability of the region and specially declared Tehran and Doha's support for peace in Yemen.

The two men declared their satisfaction regarding progress in UN-brokered Yemeni peace talks in Sweden.

On December 13, 2018, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said the Yemen’s Houthi Ansarullah movement and the country’s former Saudi-backed government have reached an agreement on a ceasefire arrangement in the Red Sea port city of Hudaydah.

The UN chief made the announcement shortly after the delegations of Yemeni warring parties agreed that the United Nations should play a “leading role” in negotiations regarding Hudaydah. The vital port city is currently controlled by the Ansarullah movement.

The new round of peace talks aimed at ending nearly four years of a brutal Saudi-led war on its southern neighbor came to a close in Sweden.

Despite nearly four years of military aggression, and the use of advanced American weaponry, and full military and logistic support from Washington, Saudi Arabia and its allies have not been successful militarily.

Today (Saturday 15, December 2018), Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani inaugurated the opening of the 18th Doha Forum under the title of "Shaping Policy in an Interconnected World."

Emir of Qatar in his official opening speech noted that crackdown, tyranny and human rights violations is a threat to humanity, adding: "The widespread conflicts across the world have given rise to regimes that do not observe human rights."

He also said that there are many challenges in the West Asia region and the most important conflict in this region is the Palestinian issue.

The two-day Doha Forum, entitled "Shaping Policy in an Interconnected World." focuses on security; peace and mediation; economic development and trends and transitions.

On the sidelines of the Doha Forum 2018, the Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif will meet with some of the participating officials.

Relations between Iran and Qatar have improved markedly since a dispute broke out between Doha and a Saudi-led bloc of Arab countries in June 2017. 101/205/211
