Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Bahram Ghasemi on Monday expressed hope that the issue of yellow vest protests in France will be resolved peacefully. Ghasemi said the yellow vest protests is an internal domestic issue for France.

Iran news: Referring to France's protest and interference in domestic Iranian politics during and after the 2009 presidential election in Iran, Ghasemi criticized certain European countries' double-standard approach and manipulation of such issues for political purposes, Iran Press reported.

He expressed the hope that the yellow vest protests in France are resolved peacefully.

Protests have engulfed France due to a sharp rise in fuel taxation and the high cost of living. Protesters wearing yellow jackets have been involved in pitched battles and street fighting with Riot police for several weeks now. The yellow vest movement says it has no affiliation to any political group or syndicate.

At least 4 people have died and over 500 others have been injured in France, since protests began against the planned tax hikes on diesel fuel and gasoline in the country.

The protests in France began in Reunion Island, against the government decision to hike tax on diesel and gasoline, which will come into effect on January 1.

The French Interior Ministry reported that more than 287,000 people attended the so-called "yellow vest" protest on last Saturday.

Also according to Police, 4500 people have been arrested in connection with disorderly conduct and rioting. 

The past ten months have seen a 23-percent increase in the price of diesel in France, where the price of petrol has soared by 15 percent within the same period.

As of January 1, 2019, prices for petrol and diesel in France are expected to grow by 2.9 euro cents and 6.5 euro cents, respectively. 103
