Tehran (IP) - Shia Muslims in Iran and other parts of the world mark the auspicious birth anniversary of Imam Ali (AS), the first Shia Imam; the occasion is considered as the national Father's Day and Men's Day in Iran as well.

Iran PressIran News: In the Muslim world, Imam Ali (AS) is known for his courage, profound knowledge, equality and justice. 

Father’s Day and Men’s Day in the Iranian calendar coincides with the auspicious birth anniversary of Imam Ali (AS), the 13th of Rajab; this day in 2023 is celebrated on February 4. Iranians honor their paternal bonds and spend time with their fathers and grandfathers on the national holiday.

Millions of Muslims also flock to the shrine of Imam Ali (AS) in Iraq’s holy city of Najaf to celebrate the occasion.  

Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (AS) was born 23 years before the Hijrah (migration) of the Holy Prophet of Islam, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

He was martyred on the 21st of Ramadan in the year 40 AH in Iraq’s Kufa at the age of 63.

Imam Ali, many historians believe, was born in the great Kaaba; he is the cousin of the Holy Prophet of Islam Muhammad ibn Abdullah (PBUH), the first Imam of the Shia Muslims, the dear husband of Lady Fatimah (SA) and the dear father of Imam Hassan (AS) and Imam Hussein (AS), the second and third Imam of Shia Muslims, respectively. ‌The rest of Shia Imams are His descendants.
