The illegal network, acting in the provinces of Tehran, Khorasan Razavi, Gilan, Qom, Mazandaran, Golestan, Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad, and Qazvin sought to create an artificial demand for petrochemical products in the local market.

According to the Ministry of Intelligence, the proceeds from financial crimes of the gang are estimated to amount to 5 trillion Iranian rials.

The dealers had created instability and turmoil in the petrochemical market in recent months, causing a 5-fold rise in the price of foodstuffs and textile products as a knock-on effect. But there is currently a falling trend in prices within the petrochemical market, thanks to timely action by intelligence ministry.

With decreasing value of foreign currencies, there is no tendency to keep it at home among those who have considerable amount of it. The result is there are more sellers than buyers, and the value of key foreign currencies is falling. This trend is expected to continue in the coming weeks.
