Secretary-General of the Algeria’s ruling National Liberation Front (FLN), Jamal Weld Abbas has resigned.

Iran PressAfrica: Top officials of Algeria’s ruling party, FLN said on Wednesday the cause of Jamal Weld Abbas's resignation was his disease and the advice of Physicians.

According to unnamed official source, Algeria Parliament Speaker, Mouad Bouchareb will temporarily replace Abbas and run the affairs of FLN, until the party to elect new secretary-general, APS news agency reported.

Abbas took office in October 2016; replacing former Secretary-General, Amaar Saadani who also abruptly resigned.

FLN members said Bouchareb will head the party for a transitional period of 45 days until ruling party holds an extraordinary conference to elect a new chief.

The same sources added Abbas came to office as usual before suffering a severe heart attack and was taken to the Ain Al-Nuja military hospital in the capital for treatment.

Algeria’s ruling National Liberation Front holds 164 seats out of 462 seats in parliament.

More than 700,000 members of FLN are calling for Bouteflika's candidacy in the upcoming election, reports said.
