Tehran (IP) - Iran's Foreign Minister says that no matter of any international development, the expansion of ties with Russia is of importance for Iran.

Iran PressEurope: Hossein Amir-Abdollahian went to Moscow on Tuesday to discuss the regional issues and the Vienna talks with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov.

During the meeting, Amir-Abdollahian appreciated the Russian negotiating team in the Vienna talks to reach an agreement in favor of lifting the sanctions upon Iran.

Iran's international nuclear agreement or the so-called Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) was signed between the country and P5+1 countries (Russia, China, UK, Germany, France, and the US) in 2015, but the US scrapped it on May 18, 2018, re-imposing more sanctions on Iran.

He also considered the meeting a good opportunity to discuss the developments in Ukraine, Afghanistan, Yemen, Syria, among other international issues.

The Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov for his part said that the agreement is on its way to being finalized. Lavrov said the trade between Iran and Russia set a record such that during the past year it increased up to 80 percent.

Upon his arrival in Moscow, the Iranian Foreign Minister said Iran condemned war anywhere in the world, noting the country stressed political solution to the Ukrainian crisis.
