Tehran (IP) - The Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) calls the Ukrainian crisis an instructive lesson for the Western countries.

Iran PressIran news: Criticizing the West for not recognizing Moscow's security concerns, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 21 that his country had recognized the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk People's republics, having signed cooperation and friendship agreements with their leaders at the Kremlin.

Earlier in the day, the Russian Duma called on Putin to recognize the independence of Donbas separatists from Ukraine.

The Secretary of Iran's SNSC Rear Admiral Ali Shamkhani wrote in a tweet on Wednesday: "Collapse of financial markets & sharp rise in energy prices due to the crisis in easternmost part of Europe, showed that instability & insecurity in all its forms in eastern hemisphere will do serious damage to Western interests."

"The #UkraineCrisis can be an instructive lesson," Shamkhani pointed out.

The Donbas region in eastern Ukraine comprises Donetsk and Luhansk regions, as well as several other Russian-populated regions, with the two provinces unilaterally declared independence from Kyiv in 2014 after a change of government in Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Iran's Foreign Minister wrote in a tweet called the NATO's provocations as the root of the Ukraine crisis.
