Vienna (IP) - Iran's top negotiator in Vienna talks met with the EU coordinator of the JCPOA Joint Commission and China's top negotiator for the negotiations in the Austrian capital.

Iran PressEurope: Ali Bagheri Kani, China's chief negotiator Wang Qun, and EU's Enrique Mora held a meeting on Sunday to consult over the issues about Iran's nuclear deal or the so-called the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Iran's international nuclear agreement or the so-called Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) was signed between the country and P5+1 countries (Russia, China, UK, Germany, France, and the US) in 2015, but the US scrapped it on May 18, 2018, re-imposing more sanctions on Iran.

The eighth round of sanctions talks begun in Vienna on December 27 is ongoing in Vienna, after a short break, this time without the US and but between Iran and the P4+1 group.

The Spokesman of Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs says the US time and again has called for direct talks with the Islamic Republic of Iran and that the country has announced such talks lacks clarity.

Khatibzadeh said such direct talks with the US are unnecessary if there is nothing to be achieved out of them.

"I said in New York in September that if Mr. Biden has goodwill, he had better release $ 10 billion of our assets frozen in the foreign banks. We do not ask Mr. Biden for a loan or money, but we expect him to release our assets as a sign of goodwill," he said.

He emphasized that the US authorities' speaking of goodwill only in words was insufficient for direct talks with Iran.

Simultaneously with the new rounds of the JCPOA talks in Vienna, Biden's administration imposed new sanctions on the legal and natural Iranian persons, as his predecessor Donald Trump did so when in power.
