Beirut (IP) - The speaker of the Lebanese parliament supported efforts for talks between Saudi Arabia and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Iran PressMiddle East: Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri stressed at the opening of the meeting of the Union of Arab Parliaments: "We express our support for all efforts for negotiations between Saudi Arabia and Iran."

Nabih Berri expressed hope that these talks will lead to positive results for the interests of the two countries and, moreover, the interests of the Arab and Islamic countries and the people of the region.

Nabih Berri also clarified about holding the upcoming elections in Lebanon, saying that his country is committed to holding the elections and their realization with full transparency and away from any pressure, and rejected any attempt to postpone the holding of the elections.
 
The speaker of the Lebanese parliament called on the Union of Arab Parliamentarians to participate through a committee to set up to monitor the Lebanese election process.

Nabih Berri further supported Syria's return to its position and role in the official Arab system, saying that Syria's membership in the Arab League plays an important role in achieving Arab solidarity.
