Commentary:
Zionists orchestrate targeted violence against Palestinians in Sheikh Jarrah

Tehran (IP) - Israeli forces have once again targeted residents of the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in occupied Al_Quds. The attacks were supported by some members of the Israeli Knesset.

Iran PressCommentary: Zionist violence against residents of the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood is a long-standing issue. In fact, the residents of the neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah are among the Palestinians who are under constant and continuous violence by the Zionist military and settlers.

The main cause of this violence is the Zionist territorial and racist claims about the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood. The Zionists, who use all kinds of violence to Judaize the Palestinian territories in occupied Al-Quds and to racially purge them, have targeted the Sheikh Jarrah because dozens of Palestinian families live there. As the violence escalates, the Zionists pursue the relocation of Palestinians from their homes in the Sheikh Jarrah area.

Violence also takes many forms

Israeli police and soldiers have clashed with Palestinian residents of Sheikh Jarrah and arrested more than 30 people in recent days.

In addition, Israeli police have blocked the neighborhood with barricades and residents are moving around in a controlled manner.

Itmar Ibn Ghafir, an extremist member of the Israeli Knesset known for its hostility to the Palestinians, opened his office in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of occupied Al-Quds. Ibn Ghafir claims that his goal is to support those Jewish families whose security card not be provided by the government.

In addition to the violence, the Court last year ordered the evacuation of the homes of 12 Palestinian families in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in favor of Jewish settlers. These Palestinian families exercised their right to protest and appeal, and their case was resumed.

This year on January 3, the Israeli cabinet sent a notice to four Palestinian families evacuating their homes. The communiqué claimed that the ownership of the lands of these houses had belonged to the Jews for many years.

The Municipality of Occupied Jerusalem recently issued a warning to some Palestinian families living in Sheikh Jarrah that their families had 21 days to demolish their own houses, or that the municipality would demolish them and receive a demolition fee. Palestinian families say they bought the land years before the Jordanian government.

Concerns on rising about the risk of a new war outbreak

Palestinian resistance groups have warned of an escalation of Israeli military violence, particularly in the Sheikh Jarrah area. Khalid al-Battash, a member of the political bureau of the Islamic Jihad movement, stressed that what is happening in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood by Israeli settlers is an attempt to carry out ethnic cleansing against the Palestinian people in the occupied Al-Quds and evacuate its main inhabitants.

Khalid al-Battash warned of the consequences of these Zionist actions and stressed: "The resistance will not accept what is being done in Sheikh Jarrah and we will not allow ethnic cleansing and expulsion of the people."

Due to the reaction of the Palestinian resistance groups, concerns have grown about the possibility of a new war. Accordingly, the European Union in a statement stressed the need to stop violence and provocative and irresponsible actions of settlers in the neighborhood.

Some sources said that the UN Security Council will hold a meeting next Wednesday (February 23rd) to review the latest developments in Palestine, in particular the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood.
