Sirjan (IP) – Sirjan twin Iceboxes in Kerman Province, southeast of Iran were built in 1275 AH during the Qajar era.

Iran PressIran News: Due to the hot and dry weather, the people of Sirjan faced water and ice shortage in summer; the twin Iceboxes provided the needed ice for them.

Sirjan twin Iceboxes were registered in the list of national monuments of Iran in 2005. These historical twin Iceboxes are one of the tourist attractions of Sirjan.

The Iceboxes consist of two ice pits covered with a large dome, and a high wall has connected them. The twin refrigerators are about 7 meters high and 9 meters in diameter.

Today, however, with the development of urbanization, the twin Iceboxes of Sirjan are no longer effective; they are known as pristine tourist attractions to show the old architects' art to the future and tourists.
