Jolfa (IP) - Iran’s foreign minister said that the economic prosperity of Aras would be realized with the reopening of the transportation routes of the region.

Iran PressAsia: Mohammad Javad Zarif made the remarks on Saturday night during his regional tour while visiting the Jolfa border, on the sidelines of meeting with officials of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

He said: “The first line of communication that can be reopened is the Jolfa-Nakhchivan-Armenia line which causes the prosperity of Jolfa and Aras regions again.

During his visit, which was accompanied by the Director-General of the Aras Free Zone Organization, together with the Governor of East Azarbaijan and the officials of the province, he was briefed on the situation of border exchanges between the two countries.

On the sidelines of these visits, Zarif expressed satisfaction with the end of the Nagorno-Karabakh war and expressed hope for peace and friendship in the region, saying: "Now is the time for all of us to look forward."

Referring to his talks with officials in the region, he said: "The removal of the blockade of transportation lines between neighboring countries, which occurred as a result of the Nagorno-Karabakh crisis, was emphasized and the realization of this issue will benefit everyone."

"There are many possibilities in the countries of the region and we can work together to close the way for conflict and see lasting peace in the region," he said.

Visiting the Jolfa Railway and Customs Station in Nakhchivan and the Iran-Azerbaijan border bridge were among the plans of Iran’s foreign minister during his visit to Nakhchivan.
