Tehran (IP) - Spokeswoman for Iran's Ministry of Health and Medical Education Sima Sadat Lari announced on Wednesday that the COVID-19 death toll in Iran had reached 97 over the past 24 hours.

Iran Press/Iran news: Lari said that another 97 people had lost their lives due to the deadly virus during the past 24 hours in Iran, and with this number, the total death toll reached 56,457.

Elaborating on the latest situation of the coronavirus pandemic in Iran, Lari said that 6,317 new cases infected by the COVID-19 were found over the past 24 hours, some 653 of whom have been hospitalized.

She added that 1,305,339 Iranians have totally been confirmed infected, some 1,094,388 of whom have either recovered or been discharged from hospitals.

Lari further underlined that 4,469 COVID-19 patients are in critical conditions and under treatment in the hospitals' intensive care units.

So far, 8,316,375 COVID-19 diagnosis tests have been conducted across the country; the Health Ministry spokeswoman pointed out.

As she stated, seven cities of Sari, Amol, Fereydunkenar, Ghaemshahr, and Neka in Mazandaran province and Bandar-e-Gaz and Kordkoy in Golestan province are in the red zone. Also, 30 cities are in orange, 219 cities are in the yellow zone, and 192 cities are in the blue.
