Tehran (IP) - Transport ministers of ECO discussed ways to reduce the negative effects of COVID-19 in transportation with the cooperation of ECO member states.

Iran PressIran news: In Tuesday's meeting of transport ministers of Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) member states, in which eight ministers and two deputy ministers were present, the Minister of Roads and Urban Development of Iran was elected as the chairman of the meeting.

Solutions to the problems of COVID-19 disease were discussed, and methods for implementing health protocols were examined to reduce the effects of COVID-19 in transportation with the cooperation of ECO member states.

Iran has taken practical steps in implementing health protocols at the borders and has installed "mechanical disinfection" devices on almost all railway borders.

Features of the railway field have made many to use of this capacity. Countries are continually investing in infrastructure in this area. For example, the inauguration of the Khaf-Herat railway is a turning point in the field of international railway transport.

In this regard, deputy minister of road and urban development, Shahram Adamnejad, in an exclusive interview with Iran Press, said the ECO members tend to take more steps in railway and especially developing infrastructures that will affect the countries' relations in the field of transportation.

Transportation of goods from south to the north and east to the west can be remarkable since Iran plays a vital role in railway in the region, and today's meeting was aimed at removing barriers in this regard, he added.
