Armenian attacks on Azerbaijani civilians continue

Armenian forces on Sunday launched a missile attack on the Khizi and Absheron regions of Azerbaijan, according to a senior presidential official.

Iran PressEurope: Hikmet Hajiyev, the assistant to the president and foreign policy chief for Azerbaijan's presidency, said on Twitter that Armenian forces launched two 300-kilometer mid-range missiles on the regions.

Earlier, Haciyev announced that Mingachevir, an industrial city in Azerbaijan, had also been targeted by an Armenian missile strike.

The conflict between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia over the Nagorno-Karabakh region began in 1988. It escalated into a military war in 1992, which resulted in the occupation of the Nagorno-Karabakh region of the Republic of Azerbaijan and seven neighboring cities by Armenian forces.

The President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Elham Aliyev, said on Twitter that he is willing to talk only if the Armenian forces withdraw from the Nagorno-Karabakh region.

Military clashes between Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan on the border between the two countries resumed last Sunday while the two sides accuse each other of starting the war.

On Sunday, the Iranian embassy in Baku called on the parties involved in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict to abide by international and humanitarian law and condemned any violation of the rights of innocent people and the destruction and damage to civilian facilities and property.
