Tehran (IP) - In a Twitter message, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif reacted to the US representative to the UN, Kelly Craft about the trigger mechanism.

Iran PressIran News: In an interview with Al Arabiya English TV channel, the US envoy Kelly Craft said, "We stand for the safety of the American people and the safety of the Middle East and Israeli Regime and we absolutely will not allow and will do everything in our power to deny Iran access to weapons."

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in a twitter message in reaction to the US envoy's remarks to the United Nations said: "After thrice being rejected by UN Security Council, the US now threatens "sanctioning anyone and any entity that comes between the US and its so-called snapback."

Zarif added: "Obviously they don't understand the law or the UN regulation. Maybe they can grasp this: "through your withdrawal from the JCPOA in 2018, you divorced the international agreement, your stance is no more relevant."

Security Council members opposed US use of trigger mechanism as US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo wrote a letter to the UN Security Council President on Thursday evening accusing Iran of violating the JCPOA and formally calling for the return of sanctions on Iran.

The European troika (France, Germany, and Britain) also delivered letters to the President of the Security Council opposing the US move.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry also stated that the United States has no right to reinstate Security Council sanctions against Iran.

The United States withdrew from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) two years ago, without regard to UN Security Council Resolution 2231.

In a new legal interpretation, the US claims that according to the provisions of this resolution, it is still one of the participants in the JCPOA; and in this context, US has the right to use the mechanisms mentioned in this agreement, including the trigger mechanism for the return of sanctions against Iran.
