US Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren stressed the need for the United States to return to Iran Nuclear Deal, saying that Donald Trump's policies are isolating and undermining US security.

Iran PressAmerica: The Democratic senator wrote in a tweet on Sunday: "Only the countries participating in the Iran nuclear deal can impose UN sanctions against this country, but US President Donald Trump has withdrawn from the agreement."

"Let's return to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA)."

Elizabeth Warren's remarks reaffirm that the Donald Trump administration's attempt to trigger snapback and reinstate UN sanctions against Iran is illegal, which has been criticized by the international community.

"Trump's policy toward Iran reduces our security and makes us more isolated among the US allies," Elizabeth Warren wrote.

Warren's tweet is in response to the Trump administration's recent attempt to activate the trigger mechanism; an action that has many critics inside the United States and the international community as a whole opposes it. The US' European allies, including France, Britain, and Germany, have described the US government's attempt to use the trigger mechanism as illegal.

The trigger mechanism will re-establish all suspended UN sanctions. If the Security Council does not adopt a resolution extending the suspension of sanctions within 30 days of the activation of this mechanism, the previous six sanctions resolutions will be automatically activated against Iran. Of course, one of the US favorite options is that a resolution is raised in this regard at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) in less than a month; The White House will definitely veto it and pave the way for the return of sanctions.

In early August, the United States once again accused Iran of violating the nuclear deal and announced plans to restore UN sanctions on Tehran. On August 20, US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo notified the United Nations that Washington was initiating the process to reinstate all UN sanctions on Iran. The US believes that the sanctions may come back into effect in 30 days.

Under the JCPOA, the state parties - Russia, the US, the UK, China, France, and Germany - can trigger a snapback mechanism to reimpose sanctions on Iran if Tehran violates the deal. Washington left the JCPOA in 2018.

Washington’s move came shortly after a US draft resolution on extending the arms embargo on Iran failed to get the required number of votes to be adopted by the UN Security Council.

According to US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo, his country was ready to impose sanctions on Russia and Tehran if the US effort to restore anti-Iranian restrictions is hampered.
