International community does not succumb to US pressure, threats

Tehran (IP) -Iran's president-chief of Staff Mahmoud Vaezi stated that the United States' attempt to activate the trigger mechanism will fail.

Iran PressIran News: "Trump has seen a sharp decline in popularity in the last months of his administration, so he seeks to get out of this situation by projecting and using threatening tools," Mahmoud Vaezi wrote on his Twitter account.

"Today, despite the firm stance of China, Russia and European countries against the US move to activate the trigger mechanism, the US Secretary of State has not learned from the recent humiliating defeat and without any legal reasoning is threatening the Security Council members to join the US in its failed campaign.

Vaezi concluded: "The era of unilateralism is over, and the International community does not succumb to US pressure and threats; "This action of theirs will also fail."

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo wrote a letter to the president of the UN Security Council on Thursday evening, accusing Iran of violating the JCPOA and formally calling for the return of sanctions on Iran.

The United States withdrew from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) two years ago, without regard to UN Security Council Resolution 2231.

In a new legal interpretation, the US claims that according to the provisions of this resolution, it is still one of the participants in the JCPOA; and in this context, US has the right to use the mechanisms mentioned in this agreement, including the trigger mechanism for the return of sanctions against Iran.

Russia, China, France, the UK, and Germany have opposed the US request.
