Tehran(IP) - Iran's Health Minister Saeed Namaki said that based on UNICEF and WHO's reports, vaccination coverage has decreased worldwide due to coronavirus outbreak.

Iran Press/Iran news: In a video conference that was held at Health Ministry with other countries' health officials, Saeed Namaki said that all members should empower their health system by giving priority to primary healthcare, empowering private and public sectors, and invest in these areas to achieve 3 billion targets ( the Triple Billion targets are an ambitious initiative to improve the health of billions by 2023).

Referring to the fact that 1200 health centers in Iran have increased their work time from 16 to 24 hours, due to coronavirus pandemic, the minister said that I am proud to declare that Iran has implemented the 3 Billion Target to fight coronavirus.

Screening through phone calls, visiting patients at home, and offering necessary services are among the steps taken in this regard, he added.

Namaki recommended WHO and UNICEF to facilitate sharing experience among countries to fight coronavirus and also investing in eliminating polio in the region.

He also recommended WHO, UNICEF, International Monetary Fund (IMF) along with other economic organizations to help countries with low or intermediate income to overcome the economic consequences of COVID-19.

Iran's health minister also emphasized on equal accessibility of COVID-19 vaccines in the framework of COVAX and other bilateral or multilateral innovations.
