Iran Press/Middle East: Lieutenant-General Abdul Ghani al-Assad was former Counter-Terrorism Services (CTS) commander of the Iraqi Army.
Iraqi Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief Mustafa al-Kazemi on Saturday also appointed Qasim al-Araji as national security adviser instead of Faleh al-Fayadh.
Qassem al-Araji, a former member of parliament, was Iraq's interior minister in Haider al-Abadi's government.
These two positions were previously headed by Faleh Al-Fayyadh.
Al-Kazemi also removed Jassim Mohammed al-Alami from the post of head of the Iraqi Information and Communication Organization and replaced him with Abdul Wahab al-Safar.
