A UN rights expert urged the European Union on Friday to consider measures to prevent or punish any Israeli annexation of parts of the occupied West Bank.

Iran PressMiddle East: Friday’s statement by Michael Lynk, UN special rapporteur on human rights in the Palestinian territories, said the EU should back up its warnings against Israeli plans with “a decisive menu of counter-measures.”

That was a reference to possible economic, trade, or other sanctions. The EU has said annexation must not go unchallenged.

Six years after the last round of peace talks with Palestinians collapsed, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has pledged to put settlements and the Jordan Valley in the Occupied West Bank under Israeli sovereignty. He has set July 1 as a starting date for cabinet discussions on the issue, which has also raised alarm within the European Union, according to Reuters.

The Zionist Regime is going to occupy and annex parts of the West Bank to the territories that have been occupied in Palestine.

The annexation encompasses over 30 percent of the West Bank. The United States said it was ready to recognize Israel's annexation of much of the occupied West Bank.
