Chinese delegation at International Atomic Energy Agency said that maintaining and implementing the JCPOA is a necessity and the only right way to resolve the Iranian nuclear issue.

Iran PressAsia: The Chinese delegation to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in a statement on Wednesday 17 June, referring to Director-General's report on the verification and monitoring of Iran's nuclear activities related to UN Security Council Resolution 2231, said that Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA)  is an important part of the international system for peaceful nuclear activities and an important pillar of peace and stability in West Asia.

The statement from China's delegation at International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) stated that the United States had violated UN Security Council Resolution 2231 by suspending its participation in the JCPOA, continuing to exert maximum pressure on Iran and preventing other countries from implementing the agreement.

China called on the United States to lift unilateral, illegal sanctions against Iran and to return to the right path of adherence to the JCPOA and UN Security Council Resolution as soon as possible.

The Chinese delegation's statement stressed that the international community should take effective measures to ensure Iran's economic benefits and thus achieve a balance between the rights and obligations set out in the JCPOA.

On Tuesday, May 8, 2018, US President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew his country from this international agreement in violation of Washington's obligations under the UN Security Council and announced the return of nuclear sanctions.

Trump's move has drawn widespread domestic and international condemnation.
