Tehran (IP) - Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman stressed the need to preserve and respect Libya's territorial integrity.

Iran Press/Iran news: Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Abbas Mousavi stressed Wednesday night the need to respect Libya's territorial integrity, adding that Iran has always stressed the need to respect the right of Libyan people to determine their political destiny away from foreign interference.

Mousavi also said that Iran believes the crisis in this country has no military solution and the only way to achieve stability and peace in Libya is that all countries and regional and international actors support the political process in this country and hold Libyan talks with the participation of all domestic parties.

Mousavi concluded by announcing the Islamic Republic of Iran's support for international efforts to end the political crisis in Libya, stressing the need for continuation of such efforts.

Libya has been engaged in civil war since 2011, when former dictator, Muammar Gaddafi was overthrown.

Today, Libya is divided between two centers of power, an elected parliament in the country's east, supported by the Libyan National Army (LNA), led by Khalifa Haftar, and the UN-backed Libyan Government of National Accord (GNA) in the west, headed by Fayez Sarraj.

The Haftar-led LNA, supported for years by Saudi Arabia, Egypt, UAE, and a number of Western countries, controls eastern Libya and has in recent months advanced toward the northern part of the country.
