Kermanshah (IP) - So far, open heart surgery was used to be performed at Imam Ali (AS) Cardiovascular Hospital in Kermanshah with the help of an artificial heart and lung machine, but with the efforts of Professor Freidoun Sabzi and the hospital's specialists, the "beating heart" surgery has replaced it.

Iran Press/Iran News: In "beating heart" surgery method, Dr. Sabzi does not stop the patient’s heart, but while the patient's heart is beating, with the help of medicine and device, he keeps the heart stationery and creates the necessary number of grafts (artificial arteries).

Professor Sabzi has also succeeded for the first time in the world to develop a model for the mitral valve using pericardial tissue.

The surgeons and cardiologists in Kermanshah hold the record for open-heart surgery in Iran and perform 1,000 open-heart surgeries in a year.
