Five people have been injured, two of them critically, in a shooting near a southeast Fort Worth park Sunday evening, police said.

Iran Press/America: Just before 7 p.m., Fort Worth police responded to the scene at 4500 Burke Rd. near Wilbarger Street and Highway 287, DFW News reported.

Fort Worth Police Department spokesman Buddy Calzada said there were about 600 people at Village Creek Park when the incident occurred.

“At this time, we have five victims that were located inside this area here where crime scene is going through. Out of these five victims, I will tell you that three of them have non life-threatening injuries and we got two that are critical at this point,” Calzada said.

Witnesses told police they heard around 30 rounds of gunfire after some fireworks went off.

The department’s gang unit has taken the lead on this investigation and will be assisted by state and federal partners.

Homeland security is also on scene.

Every year thousands of people lose their lives or get wounded by gunshot attacks. Based on official statistics there are around 270 to 300 million guns in the US, which is almost one gun for every American.

US President Donald Trump is one of the supporters of the gun lobby.
