Tahrir Square protesters in central Baghdad on Saturday issued a statement condemning the ISIS terrorist group's attack on al-Hashd al-Sha'abi.

Iran Press/Middle East: Demonstrators in the statement condemned the targeting of Hashd al-Sha'abi forces by ISIS terrorists in the Makshifiyah and Balad in northern Samarra (Salah al-Din province).

The ISIS launched a surprise attack on al-Hashd al-Sha'abi in northern and southern Samarra on Friday night, killing 11 people and wounding 20 others.

Following the attack, Iraqi security forces launched a large-scale security operation on Saturday morning to pursue and suppress the terrorist elements, and the Iraqi Military Command stressed that during the search operation, it has achieved important security information about ISIS remnants in the region.

Southeastern Salah al-Din province has become a hideout for ISIS forces due to its geographical traits and security vacuum.

In recent weeks, attacks by the ISIS terrorist group have increased due to political problems caused by the formation of a new government, as well as the spread of the coronavirus, especially in the provinces of Kirkuk, Salah al-Din and Diyala, known as the Triangle of Death.
