Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyyed Abbas Mousavi

Tehran (IP) - Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman stated that the British government has profited from the export of weapons to Saudi Arabia and this country must stand on the right side of history.

Iran PressIran News: Seyyed Abbas Mousavi wrote in a Twitter message on Friday: “As the atrocities of the aggression push Yemen on the brink of the worst humanitarian crisis, coupled with COVID-19, the British Government has profited from the arms export to Saudi Arabia and left the blood of innocent Yemenis on its hands."

Mousavi added: “The UK must stand on the right side of history!”

In December 2019, the Oxfam Charitable Foundation reported that arms sales to Saudi Arabia had increased by about 45 percent. From 2015 to 2019, the Conservative governments of the United Kingdom have authorized the sale of 6.4 billion pounds of weapons to Saudi Arabia and have played a significant role in training Saudi forces.

Britain, meanwhile, has branded itself a supporter of the cessation of hostilities in Yemen and the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) that monitors the illegal transfer of weapons.

Saudi-led aggression against Yemen since March 2015, in addition to killing thousands of civilians and destroying infrastructure, has led to a severe shortage of food and medicine in the war-torn country.

Yemen is suffering the world's worst humanitarian crisis and millions are reliant on food aid. While diseases including cholera, dengue, and malaria are rife and only half of the hospitals are fully functional, the coronavirus is another kind of challenge.
