The Jordanian government warned over the failure of the UN Relief and Work Agency (UNRWA) to support Palestine against the coronavirus.

Iran Press/Middle East: Jordan’s Foreign Minister Aiman al-Safdi talked with UNRWA High Commissioner Philippe Lazzarini through video-conference on Tuesday and stressed that the removal of the challenges ahead of UNRWA needs rapid and effective regional and international actions.

Al-Safdi asserted that any disruption in the fight against the coronavirus will bring dire consequences for all countries in the Middle East.

He said increasing financial pressures and the fight against the coronavirus have exacerbated the financial situation of UNRWA, and the budget deficit of the international body must be met.

In January 2018, the United States cut off its $ 300-million aid to UNRWA, so that it put pressure on Palestinians to accept the so-called ‘Deal of the Century’ plot cooked by Israel and the US.

UNRWA has provided aid to about 6 million refugees and displaced persons in the West Bank, Gaza Strip, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria, and the cessation of the aid has created a major financial crisis for the agency.
