ICRC makes efforts to facilitate International humanitarian aid to Iran

Tehran (IP) - The deputy head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC)' delegation in Iran announced the committee's efforts to establish a financial channel for the transfer of international humanitarian aid to Iran.

Iran PressIran News: In a meeting with the head of the Iranian Red Crescent Society Karim Hemmati, Barbara Rizzoli expressed her concern over the impact of sanctions on the import of medicine and medical equipment to Iran.

"The supply of medicines should be exempt from sanctions, but it is difficult to transfer the cost of receiving medicines from banking channels," she said.

The deputy head of the ICRC delegation in Iran added that the ICRC will work with the Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to make every effort to establish a financial channel for humanitarian aid.

The head of the Iranian Red Crescent Society referred to the detrimental effect of US unilateral sanctions on humanitarian measures, noting: "The coronavirus has multiplied the detrimental impact and pressure of sanctions on the health of the Iranian people."

Despite the outbreak of the deadly coronavirus in the world and the need for a comprehensive fight against it, the US government insist on continuing its sanctions approach within the framework of the maximum anti-Iran pressure policy.
