Armed Forces Chief of Staff, Major General Mohammad Baqeri

Tehran (IP) - Iran’s Armed Forces Chief of Staff stressed the consistency of research on fighting coronavirus and said fundamental research is a strategic need to defend the country against biologic threats.

Iran PressIran news: Major General Mohammad Baqeri said on Tuesday that the country has made an opportunity out of the Coronavirus threat to develop and achieve model, equipment, and capacities to an effective defense against potential biologic offenses.

He said the issue is being pursued by the researchers along with the preventive measures taken against Coronavirus in the country.

General Baqeri made the remark in a meeting of Imam Reza (AS) Medical and Treatment Headquarters attended by the Heads of Army Medical University and Baqiyyatollah Medical University as well as the authorities of the research units of the Ministry of Defense.

In an edict to Major General Baqeri earlier this month, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei emphasized the need for the establishment of a “health and treatment base” to prevent further spread of the ongoing epidemic in the country.

“While commending the services that the Armed Forces have so far provided to the dear people (of Iran), and while emphasizing the need for those services to further expand and continue, it is necessary that these services be organized in the form of a health and treatment base,” the Leader wrote in his edict.

“In addition to establishing such treatment facilities as field hospitals and infirmaries, and so forth, you must focus on prevention of the further spread of this disease through necessary means as well,” Ayatollah Khamenei added.
