Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyyed Abbas Mousavi

Tehran (IP) - Iran's Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reacted to the baseless statements of the US representative for Iran on the election in the country, saying that they had better explain the ambiguities of the US presidential election.

Iran Press/ Iran News: Seyyed Abbas Mousavi told the reporters on Monday that the elections in Iran are higher than international and especially regional standards, adding that the Iranian people are accustomed to the contradictions of some infamous US officials about Iran.

Mousavi said the US officials would better answer the questions of many people and elites of the US and the world about the unclear and complicated mechanisms of the US presidential election, in which the majority vote is ignored, rather than questioning the elections in Iran.

"It is better the United States be prepared to respond about its strong relations with countries that are alien to even the simplest forms of elections," he concluded.

Earlier on Friday, the US representative for Iran Brian Hook had called the Iranian parliamentary elections set to be held on February 21 “pure theatre”, urging Tehran to give Iranian people “a real choice.”

Iran's parliamentary election campaign officially started across the country on Thursday.

The 11th round of Iran's parliamentary elections and the midterm elections for the Assembly of Experts will be held simultaneously on February 21.

Nearly 58 million Iranians are eligible to vote in the 11th round of parliamentary elections.
