Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif has warned against turning the Ukrainian plane crash in Iran into a political issue, calling for the attention being paid to the bereaved families of the victims.

Iran Press/Middle East: "Politicization of this tragedy must be rejected. Focus on victims’ families," he wrote on his Twitter account following a meeting with Canadian counterpart François Philippe Champagne in Muscat, Oman on Friday.

"In Oman today, met with Canadian FM @FP_Champagne to discuss consular, technical & legal cooperation among nations impacted by #PS752 tragedy," he Tweeted.

Both ministers agreed on "continued exchanges between respective experts," wrote Zarif who was on his way back from India in a stopover in Muscat.

"The two sides exchanged views on consular, technical and legal cooperation between Iran and countries whose nationals have been killed in the Ukrainian Plane incident," according to the Foreign Ministry's website.

"Zarif and Champagne agreed to meet again in the future at the appropriate time," it said.

The Islamic Republic of Iran and Ukraine foreign ministers held a phone conversation on Thursday over the latest state of the Ukrainian passenger plane crash.

Zarif announced Iran's readiness to transfer Ukrainian victims of the air crash and said that Iran is ready to accept Ukrainian experts to partake in the black box investigation.

The Boeing 737-800 plane belonging to Ukraine International Airlines crashed near Tehran minutes after the plane had taken-off from Imam Khomeini International Airport at early hours of January 8. All the 167 passengers and 9 crew members on board were killed in the tragic incident.

Iran acknowledged it unintentionally shot down the plane out of human error.

Earlier on Friday, Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Abbas Mousavi said that the tragic incident of Ukraine passenger plane should not be used as a tool in service of political gains and gestures.

In reaction to a meeting among foreign ministers of the five countries whose nationals were among the victims of the recent air crash near Tehran, the spokesman urged all parties to allow the affairs proceed in due normal process till the completion of the investigations.

He also said that certain statements made about the tragic incident and even the holding of the meeting were astonishing.
