Tehran (IP) - Syrian Prime Minister Imad Mohammad Deeb Khamis met with the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran Ali Shamkhani.

Iran Press/Iran News: Syrian foreign minister Walid Al Muallem and the defense minister Ali Ayoub also attended the meeting.

Bilateral relations and regional issues, especially after the assassination of Lt. Gen. Qasem Soleimani by the United States and the presence of the US in the region, were among the issues discussed during the meeting.

 Ali Shamkhani in the meeting said that Iran by attacking US’ Ain al-Asad base, proved it wouldn’t give up on protecting its national security and interests under any circumstances.

As long as US forces maintain their presence in West Asia, the region won’t reach stability, security, and peace, Shamkhani said, “US’ withdrawal from the region will be realized by the unity of regional nations and governments”.

Supporting measures by the Syrian government to oust terrorist groups in Idlib, he stressed, “Looting Syrian oil and resources is another tragedy that will end by US’ complete withdrawal from the region”.

Syrian Prime Minister, Imad Khamis, for his part, thanked Iran’s support for Syrian nation in fighting against terrorism, saying, “Now that terrorism is destroying thanks to the attempts by Syrian government, military and nation and the support of friend countries, we should try to develop bilateral relations through advancing trade and economic cooperation”.

A high ranking Syrian official delegation headed by Prime Minister Imad Khamis arrived in Tehran on Sunday night.

On Monday, The Iranian and Syrian delegations, led by Iran’s First Vice President and the Syrian Prime Minister kicked off minutes ago at Sa'adabad Historical and Cultural Complex in Tehran.

Iran’s Defense Minister Amir Hatami, Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mohammad Eslami, Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem and Syrian Defense Minister Ali Abdullah Ayyoub attended the meeting.

Prior to the meeting, Jahangiri officially welcomed the Syrian Prime Minister at the Sa'adabad Historical and Cultural Complex in Tehran.
