Iranian Ambassador in Baghdad Iraj Masjedi has expressed the demand for resumption of work at Iran's Consulate General in Iraqi southern city of Basra, diplomatic sources announced.

Iran PressMiddle East: He made the call in a meeting with Iraqi Foreign Minister Mohammed al-Hakim in which the envoy also demanded compensation of damaged incurred on Iranian general consulates in Najaf and Karbala cities.

Last November, rioters attacked Iran's missions in the two Iraqi cities setting on fire sections of the Karbala Consulate and burning out the Najaf Consulate which were largely condemned by Iraqi officials as well as popular leaders.

Masjedi stressed bilateral bonds between Iran and Iraq and conveyed the invitation by Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif to his Iraqi counterpart to take part in the upcoming Tehran Dialog Forum.
