Tehran (IP) - Department of Computer Engineering at Tehran's Sharif University of Technology (SUT) is hosting the 21st Asian Regional Contest for two days.

Iran PressIran news: The contest, which has been initiated by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) Society, is aiming at enhancing the ability of group programming among students, is held annually in different regions of the world and winners of regional competitions compete in the world stage.

Last year, about 650 regional contests were held around the world in which over 52,000 students from 3,200 universities of 110 different countries competed for four months and finally, the top 134 teams competed in the world event, Iran Press reported.

The SUT has officially hosted various teams from inside and outside of the country since 2009, from the time that Tehran had been selected as the permanent host of Asian Regional Contests. 

This year, about 80 groups of three from different regional universities are participating in the 21st Asian Regional Contest. The top one or two teams will compete in the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) that will be held in Russia, June 2020. 

ICPC is the oldest and most prestigious competitive programming event worldwide. 

The computer programming team from Tehran's SUT won a bronze medal during the 43rd round of 2019 ICPC.
