Former mayor of Tehran, Mohammad Ali Najafi

A former mayor of Tehran, Mohammad Ali Najafi, who murdered his wife will serve approximately 7 years and 8 months in prison.

Iran Press/Iran News: According to Mohammad Ali Najafi's lawyer, Hamid Reza Goodarzi, he received a six and a half years jail sentence for premeditated murder and a year and three months jail sentence for possessing an illegal firearm.

The sentence is subject to appeal, Goudarzi noted according to Iran Press.

Former Mayor of Tehran was previously sentenced to death over the killing of his wife, but his life was spared and the death sentence quashed when his wife's relatives decided to show clemency and not demand capital punishment.
