Chairman of the Pakistani government's national commission for human rights said that the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is dead.

Iran Press/Iran News: "I feel that OIC is a dead body and we must have another body. There should also be an international court in the Muslim world to do adjudication and this will help in getting all these countries together," Chairman of the Pakistani government's national commission for human rights, Ali Nawaz Chowhan said.

Speaking to Iran Press, on the margin of the 33rd International Islamic Unity Conference, which is being held from 14 - 16 November at the Iran International Conference Center, the chairman said about the roots of the Kashmir dispute: "When partition took place in 1947 it was on the basis of a treaty of our principle that Muslim majority areas will join Pakistan and Muslim minority areas will Join India. Kashmir was a Muslim majority area but its ruler was a non-Muslim."

"He has also been rather confused about what to do because of that principle. I think that the British did a great disservice to that area which is still bleeding because, at the eleventh hour, the border commission made changes so that the main root of Kashmir went to India," Ali Nawaz Chowhan added.

"Then later, the Indians pressurized the ruler there put their own prime minister, not from the elected body and he wanted Kashmir to join India which is wrong. India went to the United Nations because people had risen against India and Pakistan didn't join India, but Pakistan succeeded. And as Pakistan was succeeding Mountbatten, who was the vice-chancellor and a great conspirator, he then changed some of the representatives of Western countries who were totally in agreement with Pakistan's permanent representatives that Kashmir should have a plebiscite or it should accede to Pakistan," the human rights activist underscored.

"So to this day, India is not in favor of the process of self-determination for Kashmiris which is essential under the universal declaration of human rights and under the 4th protocol of the United Nations because people have the right to self-determination," Chairman national commission for human rights government of Pakistan highlighted.

"They are being suppressed in Kashmir, there is rape, there is the killing of children, they are sick, they cannot go to hospitals, they cannot have food and the Muslim world has to rise in support of Kashmir. Because unless we all unite and rise Kashmir will be occupied," he concluded.

What can the Islamic ummah do to solve the Kashmir problem?

"For the time being, I feel that OIC is a dead body and we must have another body. There should also be an international court in the Muslim world to do adjudication and this will help in getting all these countries together."

"But I am happy that we have an awakening committee and this will help raise the problem of Muslims, raise the problems of the youth, and bring about reconstruction, bring about the curriculum and that awakening is going to unite us together above the schisms," he said.

"It should also be understood that we are not against non-Muslims, we have always shown grace to non-Muslims according to Quran Soura 114, speaks of Allah as God of all people, Rab ul-Alamin, and then we have Soura al-Baqarah which talks of the Jews, Christians, Sabein (disciples of John the Prophet, son of Prophet Zechariah) and all Muslims and Kitabias (followers of Divine books) to have equal right if they are righteous; Muslims if they are not righteous they will also be accountable. But I think monarchies are a big hurdle in the way of unity and moving forward," the Pakistani official added.

"Islam in some countries has been focalized and that is unfortunate. The spirit of Islam is being lost and there is decadence. I see so much of discipline here and I think this is Barakat (blessing), people are friendly despite the economic problems and sanctions. I don’t find them annoyed, they are kind they are working within …, that is the spirit of Islam. So you know I think if we hold the spirit, you will throw away the mundane or the material part which some other countries are trying to hold onto, and not holding the spirit," he noted.
