Italian tourists pay visit to Saffron farms on northeast Iran

Seven Italian tourists visited Saffron farms of Iran's northeastern Khorasan Razavi Province's Gonabad and familiarized with harvesting Saffron and separation of stamens from Saffron Crocus flowers.

Iran Press/Iran news: 3,500 hectares of Gonabad fields have been allocated for the production of Saffron this year, and the harvest, which started on November 1, lasts for one month. 

The number of European tourists visiting Saffron farms has increased over the past year, with the entry of Gonabad's Qanat–Based Saffron Farming System in the list of Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems (GIAHS), Iran Press reported.

Visiting historical monuments and tourist attractions of Gonabad such as Ghasabe Qanats, Jame mosque (or congregational mosque), Nojomieh seminary, Riab village and museum of anthropology were among other destinations of Italian tourists.
